New Year 2010
I think New Year’s Resolutions are a really, really good thing. There’s something magical about the clean slate of a new year and the excitement at the prospect of something fresh and young and new to mold into whatever you want it to be.
In the past, my resolution list has been long and unfocused and without a real plan to help me accomplish my goals, and as a result it’s...
Gone With the Wind
Today, I got to spend a wonderful evening with my friend Sarah watching Gone With the Wind - all four hours of it. I’ve seen the entire movie at least twice before and seen snippets here and there a variety of other times, and I love it. I love the story and the history and the fabulous dresses. And I’ve always loved Scarlett - I find her to be a strong and fascinating individual,...
What is it about the free t-shirt?
I know it especially appeals to college students, but in reality, if you offer a free t-shirt (especially one that’s edgy or pretty or cool) for attendance at any event, it will be a hit.
A "Grown-Up" Christmas List
It hit me today that I’m getting old.
As a child I had fabulous, long, detailed Christmas lists. I even assigned gifts to a scale: 1 meaning it would be nice to have, but it wouldn’t crush my childhood dreams not to have it sitting under the tree; 10 meaning an obsession akin to Ralph’s desire for a Red Ryder BB Gun in A Christmas Story.
This year? I asked for a toaster.

"Christmas" Songs
I went to Zilker park (oh, how I’ve missed Austin!) tonight with a couple of friends to see the Zilker tree, lights, and enjoy a Christmas carol sing-along. It was fun and lively, with the expected favorites like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and White Christmas. What I was not expecting, especially in a progressive, diverse city like Austin was to hear hymns praising God and celebrating...

Turning the World Upside Down Part One: The Birth...
Today in Bible class we were discussing Hebrews, specifically Christ as a sacrifice. At one point someone suggested that the death of Christ on the cross was the single most important event in all of human history, far more significant than his birth or creation or the coming judgement or anything else.
Thinking about it later, I agree, but only to an extent.
I’ve decided that...
Up
I saw Up for the first time today.
I cried. It’s hard to lose someone you love.
It’s even harder when it wasn’t death that caused you to lose them.
I guess if a man had to go shuck off everything he had, inside and out,...
– John Steinbeck, East of Eden
I love books.
The last couple of days have been filled with reading. That’s been on of the nice things about this long break and not having a regular job - the chance to read to my heart’s content without worrying that I’m neglecting other things.
I’m on a history kick right now. I’ve decided that my knowledge is patchy, so I’m trying to fill in the gaps. Right now...
A Mid-College Crisis
Some of you may already know this but I’m currently in the midst of what I’m calling a “mid-college crisis.” It’s been a long process getting here but it really solidified while I was in Europe. Essentially, I want to totally change my life plans. Major, job, goals, home, everything.
For those of you who don’t know, I’m currently a Biochemistry/Bible double major....
Family?
It’s sad to me that it seems every time I turn around I hear about another tragedy, another Christian who’s been totally enslaved by sin and is walking away from their spouse, their job, or even the church.
It’s even sadder to me that most of the time, it’s comes as a shock to all of us. We had no idea! It came out of nowhere!
Where’s the family? the community?...
2nd Floor Scott
If you haven’t already heard the news (I’ve been excitedly spouting it anyway I can - facebook, texts, now even tumblr), here it is:
Sasha and I get to live on 2nd floor Scott next semester!
Okay, so maybe this doesn’t seem like such a big deal to you. A dorm is a dorm, and who really cares what floor you live on? Doesn’t 2nd floor just mean you have to climb a set of...
Thoughts from East of Eden Part 1
When you’re a child you’re the center of everything. Everything happens for you. Other people? They’re only ghosts furnished for you to talk to. But when you grow up you take your place and you’re your own size and shape. Things go out of you to others and come in from other people. It’s worse, but it’s much better too.

If you haven’t watched an episode of glee yet, why on earth haven’t you?
I’ve got a clip of their version of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” from the first episode all ready and waiting for you. It’s all legal and everything, so you’ll have to sit through a short commercial, but trust me it’s worth it.
Do it.
3 Reasons Next Semester Will Rock
I’m overflowing with anticipation for next semester. I’ve been away from Freed for 7 months if you don’t count the short visits in August and November, and won’t be back for yet another two, so I’d be excited to get back no matter what, but next semester is going to be particularly awesome for at least 3 reasons.

I want a do-over.
So as you’ve probably noticed, despite my very noble intentions to blog every detail about my Europe trip I faltered just a little.
Okay, so really it was a rather epic failure. I think my last blog was back in Vienna, and let’s face it - that was in early September, before Paris or London or any free travel!
I tried, I really did. But frankly, between 10 hour schooldays and...
