So, here’s an update to my previous blog about my “New Approach to Health.”
Week 1 (drinking at least 64 oz. water daily) went great. Drinking lots of water is probably the most beneficial thing I’ve ever done. I felt more rested, didn’t have headaches, wasn’t as hungry, and overall just felt better than I have in a while.
Week 2 (Week 1 + some form of exercise daily) went okay. This week was super busy, and one night I completely forgot to do anything. It’s been easier on days when I’ve had intramurals. I think it’s just going to take some getting used to and forming a habit.
I’ve been consistently weighing in at 137 for a couple of days, which means I am officially less than 10 lbs away from what I weighed during my junior year when I was in peak, tennis-season condition (about 128). This is also the least I’ve weighed since the end of my freshman year of college, when I gained 10+ lbs in about two months following a horrid break-up/comfort food binge. While weight loss isn’t my primary goal, it’s a nice side effect.
And I almost forgot to mention - I just bought a pair of SIZE 6 PANTS!!! I haven’t worn a 6 since I went to Europe back in sophomore year. Now, it should be noted that they’re sort of stretchy, so I probably couldn’t work a 6 in my normal jeans, but it’s still a milestone.
Week 3 will probably be the most challenging week so far. I’ll be continuing to drink lots of water and do some form of exercise daily, but I’m also going on a strict no-dessert diet. Actually, I’ll allow myself some form of dessert once a week, just so I don’t go insane. This will be the first time I try to cut something out of my diet, and with my self-control issues it’s going to be incredibly tough. Luckily, we finished off the last of the oreos in the suite yesterday, so as long as I stay away from Gano’s dessert bar I should be okay. Let’s just pray they don’t have s’mores (half-baked brownie mix over a graham cracker crust with marshmallow whip), because that stuff is my kryptonite.
Any advice for staying away from sweets or satisfying a sweet-tooth in a healthier way?

Bananas are great: sweet and healthy at the same time. The average banana has 110 calories. I eat two or three a day, I think.
