Because several people have inquired: yes, I took my GRE, yes, it was difficult and draining, and yes, I did well. Very well, in fact. Not headed to Harvard well, but well enough to feel confident that if I don’t get into a particular program it won’t be because my GRE score wasn’t good enough. And no, I won’t share my score on my blog; I feel like that would be somehow tacky. If you know me well enough to feel comfortable asking privately, feel free.
For those who were wondering, I sent my scores to Notre Dame, Indiana University at Bloomington, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Ohio State University. Each has an attractive, respected but not top tier ancient history program in either its history or classics department, and each has possibilities for study in a cognate field like early Christianity or religious studies. I’m also looking into the University of Texas, Vanderbilt, University of North Carolina, and Duke, but their programs don’t exactly suit my interests and have appeal primarily because of their location and high ranking.
I’m glad to have this important step out of the way. Prayer as I explore new opportunities would be appreciated!
